A DIY Master Bedroom

I had the pleasure to work with a wonderful and talented lady.  She wanted a master bedroom makeover and could put in quite a bit of work to get it!  Jess was willing to paint walls and trim, and clean up and restore furniture.  Out of the two of us, she definitely worked harder than I did, but all her effort paid off.  She loves the space and so do I.  The bedroom as it was before was not a bad space. It is a great size and has wonderful windows.  For Jess and Jerry's wedding, a dear friend made them their bed. However all the other pieces in their bedroom were starter things they got because they needed side tables and lamps.

I love this room so much.  There are so many neat touches in the space.  The major changes that made such a big impact were the walls and the trim.  Painting the trim white brightens the space and makes it feel so fresh.  The colour of the walls makes the room feel bright and updated.  I have actually fallen in love with it and I am considering painting a bunch of rooms in my house this colour.

The bedside tables I found on Kijiji, and Jess refinished them.  I love the farmhouse feel it gives to the space.

The bedding is from IKEA, and freshens up the space.  While the colours are neutral, the layers of texture make it super inviting.  And shall we talk about the art above the bed???

Jess had pinned many kinds of graphic art she loved, and I happen to know a very talented graphic designer. Hannah Nel is a wonderful graphic designer who made the art above the bed.  She was awesome to work with.  After talking to us about what we wanted, she came up with the print and then gave us input, and she ended up giving us exactly what we wanted.  The frame was made out of some amazingly hard, old, barn wood that I had in my goodie pile. Jess is an amazing sewer and she has her own business.  She wanted a ladder blanket to display her quilts.  They are so beautiful and I love the colour that it adds to the space.

So there are a number of lovely things in this part of the room.  We hung up the full length mirror and added the old plough, for hooks.  The bag and the beautiful coat were made by Jess!  Super talented lady.  Here is a close-up.

We also changed up the windows.  They had vertical blinds before, so we took down the blinds and added some bamboo roman shades.  I love the added texture they give the room.  We also found these great curtains at IKEA.  They are modern and fresh and are a nice contrast to the more rustic elements in the space.

I want to look more closely at this grain bin planter. Jess loves plants, and I had suggested that we add some into the room.  When I was on a trip with my husband to St. Louis, MO, I went antique shopping.  I found these grain bins that had this amazing patina and I thought they would be really cool planters.  Jess gave me the go-ahead.  I brought them back and Jess put the planter together.  This is one of the pieces in the room that I love and I wish I had bought three extra bins to make my own.  I love them next to those curtains.  Such a nice contrast to each other.

Here is one last shot of the room.  Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out this makeover!
